Below is a way of protecting your Central Heating system from corrosion:

In order to help the life of your central heating system, a great idea is to make sure that the system is properly treated with something called a corrosion inhibitor. This is a solution that you can add to your system to provide an anti corrosion barrier. It is very important, and the components of the system including the pipes and radiators will not last long very long without this kind of protection. In order to see if you need it, then, take a hot water sample of the water from a bleed tap on one your systems radiators. Harrow Plumbers can find this out. Place the water in a glass jar and drop in a steel nail. Do the same with another jar and fill it with tap water from the kitchen. A couple of days later, if you see that the nail in the tap water has started to rust, then, the corrosion has begun. By the same token, if the nail in the system water remains shiny, then, you do not need to introduce the corrosion inhibitor to your system. The water bled from a radiator will probably be black and murky, if so, this is called sludge. The system needs to be flushed through with something called a proprietary chemical.

Method:

In the feed and expansion tank secure the ballcock so water can fill the tank. Open the drain cock at the lowest point in the radiator pipe work and drain. Pour the chemical into the F and E tank, allowing the ballcock to partially fill the tank, drawing the chemical into the system. Having flushed the system to rid it of the chemical, finally, refill the system with water and corrosion inhibitor to protect from rusting, and the job is done it sounds a bit complicated, but in fact it’s quite easy to do. A Harrow Plumber is qualified to do this. Always follow the makers instructions.
