Showers (thermostatic)

There are many options for this type of shower mechanism. The workings of these showers are very similar and do not deviate too much between the various styles, however, there are a few options when it comes to the controls, pipework connections and the material specs. Harrow Plumbers can fit all types of mixer showers.

Choice (a).

Everything in this particular unit is covered in chrome plate, this includes the feed pipes, the showerhead and the body of the mixer itself. It is suitable for fitting in solid or partition type walls. The temperature of the hot feed pipe will be very high and could burn if touched. Therefore it is not recommended for young children or elderly people. These units are controlled by rotary shaped dials and in some cases the control is via a joystick arrangement that lifts to start the water, whilst moving the control to the left or to the right to control the hot and cold flow of water from the shower. This unit is prone to showing any limescale deposits that form due to its shiny nature and must be cleaned regularly.


Choice (b).

This particular choice is plumbed into and hides its pipework in the wall. The controls are in the form of two round dials that control the temperature and shower water flow respectively. It makes a good option if the wall that you want to fit the shower to is a partition (hollow) type or it is constructed of plasterboard. If the wall is solid, then, you would have to chase the wall out in order to set the pipework. Of course this will cause more work as you will have to make good the chasing.
