Materials and Tools:

One Radiator, wall mounting brackets, wall plugs, 15mm copper pipe, compression plumbing fittings and PTFE tape, two radiator valves 50mm, No 12 screws. Spirit level, tape measure, pencil, power drill with masonry drill bits, screwdriver, spanners and pipe cutter or hacksaw.

1). Place the radiator down and fit the wall brackets onto the straps on the back ensuring that they are all equidistant from the outer edge and base of the radiator. If you are not confident to do this, a Harrow Plumber will undertake this kind of work. Mark the height of the brackets then add on 50millimetres, this will allow for the skirting. Measure the gap between the two brackets and transfer it to the wall. Hold the first bracket in the correct position and height on the wall where the radiator will be secured and mark the new securing screw holes for drilling and make sure it is level and the bracket is vertical. Drill and plug the holes, then fix the first bracket to the wall with two Number 12/50mm screws. Place the second bracket opposite the first and now secure. Make sure that the height is right and that the bracket is level. Harrow Plumbers have the skill to do this professionally.

2). The last thing to do is to offer up the replacement radiator and put the straps on the back over the hooks on the wall brackets. Once you are satisfied that the radiator is both secure and level, remove it from the brackets and lay it on the floor. Connect the two new radiator valves with the help of some PTFE tape and the correct sized spanner. When you are happy and sure that both valves are fitted ok, refit the radiator and re-connect the pipework using the PTFE tape.
