The installation of a water softener itself is not a hard task, however you do need to ensure that a hard water connection from the mains is maintained during the installation. Harrow Boiler Breakdown carry out these jobs.

You will need the following:

Enough room space to fit the unit.

An electrical supply within reach of the machine.

A close proximity drain for the machine.

A cold water supply (the closer this is, the better).

When installing a water softener you must run the waste pipe. To do this use the same process as for a washing machine. The cold water connections are made into the water supply mains with a connection run to the sink for drinking. Softened water is safe to drink but it is not advised for Pregnant women and very young children.

The installation instructions are supplied with the unit which are easy to follow. When cutting into the existing cold water mains supply pipe ensure that you have isolated the the supply and drained off any water still in the system via drain cocks etc. Another way to help with the draining down of the system is to open the float operated valve in the storage or toilet system, this allows air to force the remaining water from the system. Joining the pipe work can be done by soldered joints, compression joints or push fit joints. The recommended way of joining the pipework will vary so follow the manufacturers recommendations.
